What would Memristor change?
The memristor has storage capacity abilities many times greater than what competing technologies offer. Few of the consequences of Memristor that I read are quite interesting. It would bring a era when you do not need to have the booting process, when you switch off and restart your computer.You could have all your documents kept open on the computer, switch off the computer and go for your break and then come back and switch on the computer and work on your documents without any delay. Well another example asks you to take out the battery of your mobile phone while it is still switched on and then put it back in and continue to work from the same point where you left off, this too instantly.
Do you think this should be a dream and will never happen? In August 2010, HP announced that it has entered into a joint venture with Hynix Semi Conductor Inc, a leading memory supplier, to get the memristor into a electronic circuit. They would jointly develop Resistive Random Access Memory (ReRAM), which has the pottential to replace the flash memory used in mobile phones and MP3 players. It could eventually replace devices which could act as Flash, DRAM or even a hard disk drive. Look ahead in 2011 to see the first electronic devices that comes with the ‘Memristor inside’ logo.
The Memristors have characteristics similar to the synapses and could be used to simulate the working of neurons in a brain. There are many researches going on around the world looking at the posibility of mimicking a brain, and memristor could contribute to this research.
