After celebrating 10 successful shows at different venues in Kuwait, the Creative Indian’s Association’s Hot Stepper group is raring to go with their upcoming presentation in October 2009. Led by the dynamic Prashanth D’Souza, Hotstepper is one of the leading event organizers in Kuwait catering to the Indian community. With a portfolio ranging from dance competitions and DJ performances to comedy acts and singing, the Hot stepper continues to offer more to the local audiences with every passing event. In conversation with the President of the association; Prashanth, we got a glimpse of what makes the Hotestepper shows click.
Tell us how it all began – How was the Hot Stepper started?
I have spent most of my life in Kuwait and although for me its home, I used to often think about the lack of quality entertainment in the country. I mean there a limit to the shopping, eating and watching movies you can do. I gave it a lot of thought and decided I should do something to boost the level for entertainment with variety shows here especially for the Indian audiences. I got together with like minded friends and formed the group way back in 2003.
Due to our interest in dancing, our first show was Dance Mania 2004 and with its success we were encouraged to do bigger and better shows. The next show we did was DJ Aqeel’s Nite which was a roaring success and as they say there was no looking back. Over the course of the last five years we have registered with the Indian Embassy, developed a website – www.hot-stepper.com and gone from strength to strength to build a strong base of loyal audiences as well.
Can you tell us a little more about the shows you have done over the last five years?
Wow, the last five years have been a thrill ride with an average of two shows a year. We have done Dance Mania, two Indian Carnivals, two Indian Fiestas, DJ nights with Aqeel and Akbar Sami, etc. The range of artists we have presented included, Chitra, Abhijeet Sawant, Shakeel Siddiqui, Amit Sana, Amit Paul, VIP, Naveen Prabhakar, F4 band- (Chang, Parleen, Suhit & Abhishek), Sourabhee, Deepali, Rajdeep, Mohit Lalwani, Sunil Pal etc.
What is you biggest strength? Why do you think you do better than other show organizers in the country?
Apart from one of two organizers, can you name any organizer than has done over two shows in the country – two is if they have been lucky. Its not so easy doing shows in Kuwait. The investment is huge and returns are low. For me the returns are in seeing the crowd enjoying themselves. Our biggest strength I feel are our supporters. With the encouragement and feedback we get from them we are able to present bigger and better events every year. This year we celebrated our 10th show in the pouring rain and it was beautiful! The relationships we have built with performers, audiences and sponsors. They are the ones that make it happens for us time after time. If you look at our set up we have an amazing team with Hot Stepper executive members – Vinod D’Souza, Rakesh Sequira, Wilfred Rebello, Moin Quraishi, Shailesh Castelino, Vinod Rebello, Vijay Rebello & Raghavendra Kullal. Our marketing partners Badra International led by Wilson D’Souza and his team are also the backbone of all our shows.
Your next show is in October 2009, can you give us some details?
The next Hotstepper event will be the Indian Fiesta 2009 to be held at the Entertainment City on October 2nd. As always we will present non-stop entertainment with some leading performers from India. I don’t want to let out too much right now but we have a very pretty Bollywood actress who will be the special guest for the evening. Watch out for more news coming soon
