AOL users can use Google chat seamlessly, with the upgraded interoperability between AIM, Google Talk and Gmail. This means a Google Talk user can add a AOL user to the chat list and chat with them without switching to an AOL user account and vice – versa. This chat can be from either Google Talk, Gmail, Orkut, any other Gtalk client or AIM.
Gmail users will now see a prompt asking them to add their AIM buddies directly to Gtalk as you can see in the image. Users will have to add @aol.com to the end of the AIM contact they are trying to add to make it work like [email protected]
Going forward, to chat with the AOL contacts, you need to add them to Google Talk. For those who have more more number of AOL contacts in your list you can use the AIM import tool to add the contacts in a single action.
