Image editing means Photoshop installed on the computer for most of us. Like other things in information technology, cloud or online service providers offers a good amount of quality products for image editing. I would be reviewing a few of the online image editing tools I have used in the past.
Sumopoint is an amazing online Image editor, which supports more than resizing and cropping of the images. In addition to a full toolbar it has image navigator, swatches & layers and a custom image format “.sumo” which allows you to save and edit the file later similar to the “.psd”. There is a wide variety of shapes and textures under the brushes and ink tools. The Gravity tool helps you create some interesting paint effects.
This tool is free to use and does not require login. However, by registering and logging in, you can save the images online and also participate in the community. One key advantage of using Sumopaint is that you can draw images instead of editing the existing images or photos.
Picnik is primarily a photo editing tool and may be the widely used online photo editor. It may not be the best tool for creating images, but seems to be one of the best for photo editing. The best thing about Picnik is that it can fetch photos from anywhere, be it your computer or web cam, Facebook, Yahoo Mail, Flickr, Picasa web albums, MySpace, Photobucket or any image in the web can be edited using Picnik. Another interesting fact about Picnik is that it is one of the popular Google Chrome application which you can find here
Phoenix Image Editor is another online image editor and a Google Chrome web application (can be found here) from Aviary. The key differentiator of this online image editor is that it support HTML 5 photo editing. Similar to Sumopoint, Aviary image editor allows you to create images from scratch.
Though it is free, it requires free registration to save the images. I prefer not to have user accounts created all over the web to try and experiment. The only option to save the image to the local computer is thru exporting the created image in the flat format like “png”. May be it would be good to for Aviary to enable the download of editable formats.
Pixlr is another photo editing tool with image creation capabilities. It allows you to create images and allows you to save in the format you like, in addition to the Pixlr proprietary layer format which allows later editing.
The firefox and/or chrome pluggins will allow you to capture the whole or parts of the browser content. The express edition of Pixlr helps you edit the images on the fly and it is amazingly fast.
flauntR offers a set of online tools for image editing with various functionality. The styleR & editR features makes the digital photos look stunning. The picasR allows you to blend your photos with famous paintings. textR feature offers a wide range of fonts for text editing. Finally profilR is a feature enabled to edit online profiles in various social network sites
In the coming months and years, these tools will mature more and would offer direct competition to offline image editing tools like photoshop.
What are your opinions about these tools? what are the other tools you think work sharing, do let me know
